Electricity and Alternative Energy Instructor
Full-Time, Tenure Track Position

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in discipline; OR
- Associate degree and six years of experience in discipline; OR
- Combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items above (candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment, indicated on the Equivalency Process information sheet attached to the application); OR
- Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).
- Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with an electrical emphasis in Industrial Technology, or Industrial Education
- Knowledge of:
- Theory and operation of electrical systems, electrical codes, ordinances and construction practices
- Photovoltaic solar panels and/or alternate energy system installation
- Experience:
- Teaching in alternating current, direct current, control circuits, solar and/or electrical technology
- Developing new curriculum, courses and innovative instructional materials
- Working with energy efficient systems, solar power, control systems, programmable logic controllers and networks
- In the use of computer technology as a teaching tool.
- Ability to:
- Work with industry in one or more of the following areas:
- Curriculum development
- Advisory committee formation and implementation
- Internship development
- Job placement
- Work cooperatively in team teaching situations
- Adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different levels of students’ ability and learning styles and to students from different cultures and ethnic groups
- Do outreach and recruitment of potential students who are not the traditional workers in the electrical industry, including women
- Work with computers, multimedia and other technologies that are utilized in providing high-quality instruction
- Certification in one or more of the following:
- Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ) Certified Master Trainer/PV
- North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioner (NABCEP) PV Installer and/or Solar Thermal Installer
Experience Required
- Eligible for licensure as an electrician in the State of California.
- One (1) semester of experience teaching electricity and/or alternative energy at the high school, adult school, trade/technical and/or college level.
- Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Evidence of experience and proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment for instruction.
- Eligible for OSHA 510 and 500 course certification.
- OSHA 510 and 500 course certification within six (6) months of hire
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Instruct courses in electricity and alternative energy, including solar power. Assignment may also include other alternative energy/power curriculum. Provide leadership in the development of a comprehensive electricity and alternative energy curriculum. Assignment may include day, evening, or weekend hours. Participate in general faculty functions related to the educational program and staff development/flex-calendar activities. Responsibilities include industry outreach and curriculum/program development among other non-instructional duties related to establishment and growth of an occupational program.
