Career Ladders Project Providing Direct Assistance on an Innovative Dual Enrollment Project

The Concurrent Courses Initiative: Pathways to College and Careers (www.concurrentcourses.org) provides support to eight secondary/postsecondary partnerships in California as they develop, enhance and expand career-focused dual enrollment programs. The initiative aims to strengthen college and career pathways for low-income youth who are struggling academically or who are within populations historically underrepresented in higher education by providing them with rigorous, supportive and career-focused dual enrollment opportunities.

The Career Ladders Project (CLP), which works to strengthen educational and career advancement opportunities for Californians, is providing technical assistance and support to the initiative’s partnerships. The Community College Research Center (CCRC) at Teachers College, Columbia University, is directing, managing and evaluating the initiative. The Irvine Foundation, CCRC, and CLP believe that supporting students as they engage in relevant career and technical education and challenging college coursework will result in smooth transitions to higher education and success once there. The Concurrent Courses Initiative (CCI) is funded by The James Irvine Foundation.
